Budget 2012-2013

The PTA voted to approve a budget for the 2012-2013 school year at the last meeting on June 5.  We expect to begin the school year with a cash balance of $30,298.  The budget proposes fundraising revenue of $71,450 and program expenses of $82,792, leaving a projected cash balance of $18,956 for the end of the 2012-2013 school year.

At this meeting the PTA also discussed a proposal to provide free yearbooks to fifth graders next year.  In recent years the yearbook has been priced at $20, and it has been a minor fundraiser with a target profit of $1000 per year.  The PTA decided that the yearbook will no longer serve as a fundraiser and will instead be expected to simply break-even.  If the PTA approved the free yearbooks for 5th graders, the price of the yearbook would need to increase to $22 to cover the cost of the yearbooks for over 80 students.  The PTA voted instead to lower the price of the yearbook to $17.50 for all students.

The PTA also discussed the possibility of For Kids Eyes Only (the student newspaper) becoming an online publication next year.  We currently spend $1000 per year in photo copies for the publication and could significantly reduce or eliminate this cost by taking it online.  The current budget has eliminated the budget for this publication but has placed the funds under Executive Board Discretionary while we further evaluate the feasibility of taking this publication online next year.

The budget for next year’s school play was increased from $2000 to $3000 in order to allow 2 performances next year.  The hope is to have a fall performance for the lower grades in order to allow for greater participation than we’ve been able to handle in the past.
